Silly

This is silly but look at this old book cover I spotted at Powell's City of Books the other day! It's Martha!

While the youthful face and Lady Di hair are fantastic all on their own, are we appreciating her high waisted electric blue pants and yellow oxford button up combo? You know some hipster kid is walking around right now in that exact same outfit. Oh, Martha- setting trends for generations to come!

Plants

I've always thought it would be so lovely to have a home with a big beautiful garden full of fresh fruits and veggies, beautiful flowers (I love hydrangeas and peonies), and perhaps even some fresh lavender. The only problem is that I am terrible at keeping plants alive! My green thumb is more of a black thumb of death. I've tried growing herbs in little pots (I think I attempted basil, rosemary, and thyme) and failed miserably. The poor little guys never stood a chance. When I lived in Los Angeles I even tried to keep a cactus or two. And failed. I couldn't even take care of a desert plant.

But I won't give up that easily. Being the brave pair that we are- we're considering planting a few herbs and some flowers in pots for our balcony. It would definitely liven it up out there but I told Mr. Butter he's going to have to be in charge of their care. I will help, but I will need his supervision.

Little did I know that an alternative existed. When I was out on one of my afternoon walks last week I saw these "plants" made out of fabric at Anthropologie and thought -"gasp! These are meant for me!" I think they might just be for display though. Only the big planter had a price tag. Oh well, it could be a great opportunity for a fun DIY project! Think of all of the possibilities! I still want some edible plants though...fresh tomatoes and herbs are just so delightful!

These would be so cute on our kitchen windowsill or on a side table for the balcony. Hmmm....better start brainstorming on a how-to!

Mini Home Tour

Over the past few months I have been working hard to turn our little apartment into a cozy home. This is the first apartment we picked out together as a married couple. I think it does a good job of showcasing both of our personalities. It's classic with a twist (Tim's the classic and I'm the twist). :) Here are some previews:

Just a little glimpse into our living room and bedroom style. I have to admit my favorite room in our apartment is our guest bathroom. It's probably because it's extra feminine, always smells good, and where I take all of my bubble baths. I know it's strange to love a bathroom, but it's just so lovely! I'll share more photos from around our little home some day.

Happy Weekend!

I hope everyone is enjoying their extra long Memorial Day weekend! Ours has been lovely thus far- lots of good food, good company, and relaxation. Now that I've cleaned our apartment top to bottom, I finally have time to focus on updating the blog, perhaps working on some long overdue scrapbooks, and cooking more delicious meals.

Guess what....

....Or I guess I should say guess who I saw today?!....

Oh, I was so happy!!!!! I haven't seen him in weeks and it's been so unfortunate. But this morning as we were pulling up to the coffee shop I saw him sitting there looking beautiful as always and my heart jumped for joy! I knew it would be a good day, and I was right! He was an omen of all the good things to come out of today. More on that later though...

For now, let's just enjoy the adorableness (is that even a word?) of Mr. Pup.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

After work I often walk over to the coffee shop down the road and spend some time working on the blog, doing research on graduate programs, reading a good book, etc. Today they are playing The Postal Service "Give Up" album in it's entirety and it's making me rather nostalgic. I listened to this album on repeat when I was in high school and have every song memorized. I would write all of my papers, work on art projects, and spend endless hours chatting with my friends online with this album on in the background. I kind of forgot just how much I loved it until now. Knowing me I will probably start listening to it on repeat again. 

And now let's journey back in time and meet the Postal Service loving high school Amanda:

So I can't figure out how my hair always looked nice back then...Either I spent an obscene amount of time on it (as many high school girls do) or it had some magical teenage powers because it never looks like that anymore. And I have very little patience for styling it. I've got to get that hair back! I do remember that I used big purple hot rollers, which I have repurchased now. But I still have to blow dry my hair first, and all you thick haired ladies out there will agree when I say that is just no fun at all. 

And let's take a moment to appreciate the absurdity of our cap and gown color choice. Yes, that is shiny silver. The boys wore dark green and we wore silver. In the field on a sunny California day we looked like baked potatoes roasting in the sun. But at least we were fabulous. 

Sometimes it is rather fun traveling back in time. It makes me even more excited for the future!

Let's Go For A Walk

Portland had been rather generous with it's weather lately, and I actually fell for it. I thought the sunshine and clear skies were here to stay for the summer, and oh how I was wrong! Portland decided to go back to it's old ways this week and bring forth misty rain and gray shadows. But miraculously the clouds lifted and the rain departed for a few hours this afternoon. I wouldn't dream wasting such a lovely moment so I went for a walk! It was a bit windy so I popped into a few of my favorite stores as well. Here's some photos from this pretty afternoon:
